These journal entries were meant to reflect upon our progress so far in our respective projects. The journals were a good way to display what we have been up to and issues we have been having.
Journal 1: Getting Started - Struggles "After learning more about what the project entails over email, she agreed to be my mentor. She then suggested we talk on the phone to get a better understanding of what each other was saying. This phone call went very well but after I mentioned a number of hours I need for my fieldwork she seemed weary about being able to do that for me. She told me because they have such strict guidelines with their interns it might be hard to have me come in often. I was left stressed out that she might not have been the right fit for me. She told me that I may only be able to come into the WBZ news station 2-3 times. " Journal 2: Fieldwork- First 8 hours " My mentor has also given me the opportunity to help out in planning her live broadcasts as well as updating the billboards that display the weather on the highways, responding to emails and typing her lines in the teleprompter. When I got there I was able to see her running around and planning the forecast that she was about to broadcast. I also got to see the two news anchors that were on that morning and what they do to get ready. Since the show is on from 4:30 to 7:00 and then again at 8:00 I got to see how truly busy she was and how she would go from inside the weather center for 5 minutes to back in front of the green screen for 1 minute." Journal 3: Fieldwork-Part 2 "My mentor tries to make every visit as rewarding and exciting as the last which really helps to have a fun time and keep things switched up. The experience with my mentor couldn't be going better. My mentor is always quick to respond to my emails, a reliable source for questions and always a form of encouragement."
